Upon our return from Jakarta, we went to Pahang - to celebrate the tradition known as 'pijak tanah'

According to the culture of the people in Pahang (where my mother in law originated from), a newborn needs to get all his hair shaved, get the hair weighed, then the parents are to make some donation for the amount equals to the price of gold of the same weight as that of the baby's hair.

Before the baby is able to walk on his own, they also gathered to recite some verses from qur'an, to read salawat then the baby is held and guided to walk on some items that symbolised good things.

It was very interesting and the celebration was great.

Oh, don't get it wrong, such practise is merely a custom and has nothing to do with religion.
